Looking at the stars

May 10th, 2009

I’m kinda into this horoscope stuff lately. No not the magazines with those commercial forecasts. I’m talking about the real stuff. Astrology and all. I bought a few books and even searched online on the art of astrology. Seems like there is a whole science to this ancient study. Interesting. Instead of just your star sign, you actually have a rising sun and moon sign, plus other planet placements in the various 12 houses (which signify your influence or field of life). I had to actually check up my birth certificate just to find out the exact hours I was born in. Apparently this was an important factor if you wanted to be exact. Sorry people, the month, date and year you were born just aren’t enough. But it gets kinda confusing after that.

Your services are no longer needed…

April 2nd, 2009

I was pissed off today. Have you ever had friends who just had this mentality that people are dispensable? Now I shouldn’t get so worked up (I’m not actually, just peeved) over small matter, but guess I’ll just blog about this. I texted my friend for lunch in the city area the other day. He never replied. Ok. Fine. Called him. No reply either. Now, some of you at this point might be thinking yeah but he probably didn’t receive the message or lost his mobile. I think not. Why? I had another mutual friend who called me and asked for lunch just the day before that.

Talent or hard work?

February 16th, 2009

I’ve always had this thought on my mind: Given all things equal, is a person with talent going to outperform someone who was less talented? After many years of pondering (ok by that I mean 5 seconds once in a long while) and observation, I’ve come to the conclusion that it does. Why? Ok here’s my reasoning: Let’s say person A and B are interested in running. Both train equally hard, have the same coach, etc. But at the end of the day, A performs much better than B. Why? Simply because A was taller by a few inches. Natural talent. Ouch It hurts I know. Now, in real life things are not so clear cut, often a person with talent might be lazy and train less than someone who was average, but trains very hard.

Venus and Mars

August 28th, 2008

Men are from mars and women from Venus. And old cliché and yet it couldn’t be more true. It seems that in this modern era, the roles o f men and women are getting more and more blurred. I know I’m not the only one saying this, heck, read all the magazines and articles out there. Alternative music, sensitive guys, mescaline career-minded women. What is this world coming to? I do agree with what some of these articles wrote. In that we as men are becoming increasingly feminine. We have lost our marbles so to speak and with it the respect we once had. What’s a guy to do in this topsy turvey world? I say take back what was rightfully ours.

The mind slave

June 12th, 2008

I’ve always known that eating junk food was bad for your health. Logically I should be making healthy choices on my health. Logically that is. Now, since we do know what is good for us and bad, it’s just a simple matter of making the right choices right? Not exactly. I found that over the years, I had made several bad decisions that were not in my best interest. It seems that the advent of modern marketing is making us average folks more and more susceptible to their slick ads. With all these neuroscience research, etc, I’m not surprised at all that they’ve managed to bypass our conscious mind and feed seductive messages to the subconscious.

Too busy for friends?

March 1st, 2008

Ok it’s time to catch up with old friends again. Looking forward to dinner with some friends the next coming weeks. The last time we met was like over a year again. It is a little sad when we part ways due to different life directions and work commitments. Sometimes you forget them when you move into a new environment and have set up a new social circle. I think it is still a good idea to keep in touch with old friends. Now, for some people, I rather not get in touch with them again. Not everyone you cross path in your life will resonate with you. And that is ok I guess. Now if I could find the time, I wouldn’t mind calling up a bunch of old friends.

On history and cultures

July 26th, 2007

I’ve always had a keen interest on the subject of history for years (no pun intended). Reading those books on ancient civilizations and the marvels our ancestors had built has always been fascinating. How they forged huge structures or statues in the name of fame and glory. How amazing inventions were made by the geniuses of their time. I do have some favorite time periods you know. Specifically the Roman Empire and Chinese civilization. Both kind of (not forgetting Greece of course) epitomes the west and east of their respective cultures. The amazing engineering and scientific achievements of the Chinese is a sight to behold as well as the beautiful and effective roads and aqueducts built by the Romans.

It’s the melody…

February 5th, 2007

I’ve been listening to some of the oldies again recently. Wonderful music they make during that era don’t there? Now, by ‘that era’ I meant the 1940s to 1950s. The Jazz and slow kind of melodic singing. Nice and easy on the ears. No more sappy alternative music (not that I don’t like it) that talks about broken hearts or I’m so wimpy or emo. Songs of yesteryears seem to still retain that charm and the subject of the song wasn’t always about love.

Thai food and culture

December 24th, 2006

I’ve been meaning to visit Thailand for some time. Actually I have yet to travel there. Heard good stuff about the people and culture there. Apparently, the locals there are a friendly bunch. They don’t called Thailand the land of smiles for nothing. Heard the food there is pretty good and healthy too. I had tried Thai food before and it’s pretty healthy (oh wait or was it Vietnamese food?). In any case I like their green curry chicken.

Hot and Cold

February 10th, 2006

Now you’ve heard of people who are sensitive to certain foods or whatever. But do you know of people who are sensitive or resistant to hot or cold temperature? For me, I dread the cold and can’t stand blasted air-conditioners for too long. But put me in the sun? Oh I can stand there all day long. I was having lunch with a friends when he commented that it was freaking hot. I was like, huh what are you talking about, I’m feeling fine. But put in in those air-conditioned rooms? I’ll be like teeth chattering and shivering (ok maybe not that that extent). I’ll look around and see people looking and feeling normal.
