ARTIST’S STATEMENT

“I strive to produce art works of elegant simplicity. I draw inspiration from my urban surroundings, and its serendipitous beauty. My art is an abstract reflection of my personal experiences; ‘the chaotic, the unusual and the overlooked”.

"My abstract artwork reflects the subtleties of my environment, allowing intuition to guide my creative process. Through decisive mark making, limited colour palettes and restrained yet evocative compositions I seek to distil the essence of the everyday into poignant visual moments.”

“Inspired by the quiet beauty of the mundane, I seek to strip away distraction. My works explore the tension between presence and absence, form and void. As such, my works are contemplative reflections of the spaces we inhabit, inviting the viewer to complete the narrative with their own perceptions."

Painting journey

“For me, painting is like a journey across an unknown land. An exploration, where I know what I hope to see. A journey where only the general direction is known. Inevitably I take the wrong path or discover I’m at a dead-end but it’s always a journey of learning regardless of whether there’s an immediate aesthetic pay-off”.

“I think the ‘journey’ analogy is useful in explaining the breadth of my work. What appears to the uninformed as tangential or unconnected to my recent work, for me seems perfectly logical. I see the thread; I understand the reason for the departure from the previous works. It’s part of the journey; eventually I re-join the road where I left off, and sometimes it allows me to re-join much further down the road”.

Quality

“I love painting; everything about it, from preparing a canvas, to stretching and framing it. Throughout the process, quality of materials and finish is forefront in my mind. I’m very lucky that as well as being an artist, I am a qualified picture framer, so I get to control quality at every stage. Collector satisfaction is very important to me, and that is only achieved by attention detail in every step of the process”. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any aspect of my work.
